Manuela González (b. 1983, Medellín, Colombia) holds a BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in Painting from Yale University School of Art. Through the exploration of multiple materials, techniques, and media, Gonzalez’s studio practice has evolved from a close examination of the visual language of textiles in relation to the history of abstraction within the Western canon, investigating fabric and textile-based craft as a vessel for personal and collective histories.
Her work has been exhibited at galleries and museums including Transmitter Gallery, Charlie James Gallery, Gavlak, and MTN Space, where she presented a solo project at SPRING/BREAK Art Show (2024). She was included in Estamos Bien / La Trienal at El Museo del Barrio (2021), Nuestro Vaivén (2025) at The Ringling Museum of Art, and Let Us Gather in a Flourishing Way (2026) at The Buffalo AKG Museum of Art. She is the recipient of a residency fellowship at the Vermont Studio Center, a New Wave Residency and Fellowship and most recently a South Florida Cultural Consortium Grant. She is currently featured in a corresponding exhibition at The Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami.
